I bought the book because of all the positive feedback here. But either I already know a lot about sleep or people who wrote reviews were not much into this topic prior to reading the book. I found just few new informations on sleep and I can't say it is an "eye opener". Besides, the style of writing is totally on the line of 'fear appeal' - reminds me of adverisment that works with fear to sell the product - consequences of deprived sleep are emphasized much more strongly than benefits of good sleep. I don't like this book. Which does not mean that it is nonsense.

If you want to see if you are going to like this book, you can watch any of Matthew Walker's "Why We Sleep" talks on youtube. If you enjoy his talks, you are going to love this book.Although the title of the book is "Why We Sleep," it feels more like it should be "Why you should sleep."The book contains a multitude of results on sleep, and they are described in such a way that are easy to explain. All the presented results/studies point to one thing, you need to get a good amount of sleep every day, and even if you are slightly deprived of sleep, this will lead to physiological and psychological issues. Most likely, you will not remember most of the facts about sleep after you read this book. At least, I don't. However, what I learned from this book, was the importance of sleep. After reading, I constantly try to improve my sleep quality and extend my sleep time (there are a few suggestions on how to go about this in the book). I wish I had read this book in my youth, when I thought that sleeping was a waste of time.
